He said that being open for challenges and maintaining this attitude will allow you to succeed in any situation. "The secret to success in business has more to do with people than processes or systems."

Shawn believes that the trend of the moment is for CEOs and founders to communicate with one another to develop genuine connections. His positive business philosophy has three fundamental components that he emphasized:

Truly Respecting People

Shawn learned early on that to be successful it is not necessary to be the primary center of all things. Shawn learned early that people must be the main focus of his work. He said that being truly concerned about his teams by helping them improve their abilities and helping them refine the skills they need to deliver outstanding customer service have always paid dividends and helped him overcome the many issues that come with starting and growing a business.

"People are supposed to be valued and respected. All the businesses I've founded and the people I've worked with (colleagues and customers) are treated as unique, valuable people they are."

Treating Customers Like Friends

Customer service has become a lost art in the U.S. according to Shawn. Instead of choosing the more convenient route, he shared his intention to be accessible to his employees. He makes clients feel comfortable around him, allowing them to approach him as mentors and trusted advisors.

"I'm an advocate of being a team player, being respectful of people and helping them succeed in their positions within the organization. I can be counted on to align their values, what they want to accomplish in their career development and how we can help our customers the best."

Establishing Relationships With Employees to Lower Turnover

Shawn told us that entrepreneurs should work on cutting down on turnover and the issues that go with it. It is accomplished by focusing on a commitment to the people who work in the business, and by creating an environment that is respectful of customers and employees.

"Ultimately respect for the individual is the first priority in every business relationship."
