Generators have a smaller, less well-known cousin: portable power stations. On camping vacations, on construction sites, and anyplace else you need energy, these lunchbox-sized gadgets can keep your phone, power tools and other electronic devices charged and functioning efficiently.

North American Electric Reliability Corporation published a research predicting widespread blackouts across North America this summer, making goods like this one more than just for camping or construction projects helpful. In the event of a power outage, they can serve as a backup source of energy to keep your phone or other vital appliances working.

There are a slew of considerations that go into choosing the best LiFePo4 Battery, but two of the most important are power delivery performance and affordability.

From a few hundred dollars to more than $1,000, I evaluated seven portable power stations for this list. Klein Tools KTB5 (best midrange) and Rockpals 300W (best budget) are no longer available, thus I'm no longer recommending them. Newer, similar models have been purchased but have not been tested for power delivery and overall performance.

Battery packs were subjected to rigorous testing.

How did we test the finest portable power stations?

For the sake of objectivity, this guide took into account variables such as size, weight, battery type and novelty. For stations with Wi-Fi, testing includes running the mobile app and, if necessary, upgrading the firmware. Over the course of the charging and discharging cycles, we were able to exceed the generator's maximum power and see it recover.

Flaws, but not deal-breakers.

We found numerous versions with more capacity, maximum output, or both than the Explorer 1000, but it still delivers outstanding power for the price. Additionally, it's much lighter than the previous models, making it easier to transport to the backyard or store in a trunk.

Its screen isn't as huge or brightly lit as the one on our second-place pick, but it's still a decent option. If you're prone to squinting at small screens, the Anker might be a better option.

In order to build a strong power station, you need a large battery capacity and a powerful inverter. This includes a few USB ports in all formats, a car converter, and ultimately, a rapid method of charging the batteries. In order for the unit to function properly, it must be protected by a hard shell.

Portable power stations have grown in popularity during the last decade. As a result of the intense competition, prices have decreased while the feature set has continued to expand. We offer the best-quality power station currently available.
