We would waste your time trying to categorize all types of slots. Each casino offers a wide variety of slots to attract gamblers. There are hundreds upon hundreds of different types and variations to slot machines. These range from single line and three line to three or five reels and bonus games to progressives.

It is much more helpful to consider the main characteristics of slots machines.

Reels

A typical slot machine has three to five reels. Early slots had three reels. We call them "classic" (or "regular") machines.

5 reel slots, which are now common, often feature more than one line (see below).

Slot machines come with one, two or more horizontal rows which mark the position of the vertical reels.
A view of how narrowly a player might have missed a winning win is offered by additional rows, one above and one beneath the payout display.

Number of Pay Lines

There may be several paylines that cross the reels. It is quite common to see 3, 5, 6, 9, 15, and, more recently, even 20, paylines. To create a winning combination of symbols, they must all fall on a single line, which is often the central horizontal.

The classic machine only has one payline. You can place one or multiple coins per spin. However, only the central line pays. Therefore, increasing your wager won't increase you chances of winning.

A slot with multiple paylines can have additional lines that can be added to your play. You can also increase the number you play. It doesn't mean you have to wager on each payline.

If you're playing 3 lines of slot machines, one coin is required to play each line. Another coin is required for the line to the left. If you have only placed one coin and you see the winning combination on the right or left of the center line, you are not eligible to win because you did not play enough coins.
The diagonal match feature allows slots with 5 reels to have up to 20 paylines.

Denomination of one currency

Slot machines will accept denominations between 5 and $5. High roller slots can accept "coins," with denominations of up to $500. For large bets, there are some special limits at slot online casinos.

Total number of coins you can play

The maximum amount you can bet on classic slots slots is normally three coins. However there are some slots that will take a maximum of 2 coins. Video slots have dramatically changed this rule. Many multi-line slots accept 10 coins per line.
