In Carl Sagan's book "Unlocking the Mystery", there were a lot of fascinating and unbelievable theories about the universe. One of those theories is cloning. It is an idea that has caught on and is now being utilized by scientists and enthusiasts. Cloning involves a scientist making a duplicate of an object or organism within a living host. There are many reasons why an organism would be cloned. It could be to study it, to save it from destruction, to perfect it, or simply to duplicate it throughout the universe.
There are two different ways to go about cloning plants. The first way is called induced breeding where the parent plant is taken from its natural environment to be recreated inside a controlled environment. The second way is called air stone where the parent plant is taken out of the atmosphere and placed into another location without changing the environment. In either case, cloning is achieved by inducing changes in the DNA of the plant. The DNA is changed in such a way as to make the resulting plant either copy itself or behave in some way that is similar to the original.
There are numerous references made to Carl Sagan's theory of evolution through the universe and stars. Because there is no way to look back in time, it is believed that each individual star or galaxy began in a state similar to our own solar system. This means that each star or galaxy will be a replica of our own sun.
Some of the most famous lines from "Citations" include one written by Bohr, which reads, "The universe and I are one." Another citation is from Cosmos wherein Bohr states, "We are in the universe." And last but certainly not least, in The God Delusion, David Grove states, "I think that answers have been given to these questions already, in the sense that the universe and I are one," which obviously states that we are one with the universe.
The above two examples are only a few of the many quoted from Carl Sagan and Neil de Grasse Tyson. However, it should be noted that many scientists agree that both of these examples do accurately reflect a great deal of what scientists believe to be true. As most any scientist will tell you, there are no absolute truths in science. Indeed, the very nature of science as a whole, is a way for the universe to know itself, in all its glory.
Of course, there are those who would dispute that statement. Those who would argue that the universe contains multiverses of different realities could counter that there is nothing that can be "proofed" or proven by scientific evidence. In other words, they might say that Carl Sagan's and Neil de Grasse Tyson's reflections on how cloning weed in water is done are simply not proof, as there is no evidence of it, so there is no "proof". However, the two scientists are correct in their reflections on the matter, and in the past, science has been able to prove many scientific concepts.
The nature of science, in general, is a way for the cosmos to find out itself, as is the case with Carlsberg's and Neil de Grasse' own reflection on cloning weed in water. They are correct in observing that all the laws of physics that pertain to the universe, and thus the entire cosmos, apply equally to each individual instance. This observation may seem strange, as it seems odd that the laws of physics would apply differently for each individual instance. However, it is exactly this sort of thing that happens all the time in nature. A set of such laws, if observed carefully enough, would allow for the existence of living organisms, or even the possibility of life elsewhere in the universe.
Now then, the fact that cloning weed in water can allow scientists to study it in the laboratory, and thus find out if it does indeed grow in water, and whether it is possible to clone a weed, means that there are new doors that have been opened, that we are opening for ourselves. And it is through these new doors that we are able to explore our place in the universe. When we examine the cosmos as a whole and begin to see how everything in it, including us, fits into its very own natures, and thus how we fit into it, and what the purpose of being in the cosmos is, it becomes clearer. It becomes possible to see that we are, indeed, part of the cosmos.
